Starkey Fossgreen (b. 1994) is a painter based in Los Angeles, CA. Their work explores themes of ferality, affirmation language, sex, violence, and the mutable nature of matter.
Memory takes on a mythical quality as the mundane is captured alongside the divine and hence organized in quilt-like compositions. A library of symbols appear and reappear, sometimes staccato in their repetition, as if to strike a hammer into the psyche. Ambiguous narratives cannot help but form in the viewer’s subconscious. Every urge must be realized. Rejecting both modernity and traditionalism, we are left only with a verdant vision of a simultaneous present-future, like a vast field of grasses, pungent with the fragrance of the evening. Paradox, ever-present, allows opposing forces to become conjoined, grafted together to produce a sweeter fruit. Birth, death, and desire cycle continuously with the velocity of a strobe.
