ADRIÁN CASTAÑEDA

Artist Biography

Adrián Castañeda is a visual artist currently residing in Bilbao. He studied Fine Arts at the University of Salamanca and holds a Master’s in Artistic Production from the Polytechnic University of Valencia. With grants from the BilbaoArte Foundation in 2017 and 2021, his work has been exhibited at Las Naves in Valencia, Sala Amadís at Injuve in Madrid, the Archaeological Museum of Bilbao, the Vitriol Gallery in Buenos Aires, Cantieri Culturali Alla Zisa in Palermo, and Kunstkerk in Dordrecht, Netherlands, among others. He was a finalist for the Miquel Casablancas 2023 award and recently closed the exhibition “Content or What Is Inside Something Else” at the Arranz Bravo Foundation in L’Hospitalet, Barcelona.

He views his artistic practice as a machine for generating critical thought. He explores various aspects related to political power and its mechanisms of hegemony, the European management of migratory flows, and class consciousness. His strategy involves appropriating symbolic elements, using words, and decontextualizing objects while playing with controversy, irony, and satire. He aims to create work that encourages reflection on the current social, political, and democratic landscape.
