GASTóN LISAK
Artist Biography
Gastón Lisak is a visual artist based in Barcelona. In 2011, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Arts from the Winchester School of Art, University of Southampton. From 2012 to 2014, he was awarded with an scholarship at the FABRICA Research Centre (Benetton Group) residency in Treviso, Italy. In 2018, he completed the Museography course at NODE in Berlin, Germany. In 2020, he earned a Master's Degree in Design (MUDIC) in Barcelona, and in the same year, he took the Art Thinking course led by María Acaso. Despite his young age, he has already spent 10 years teaching at ELISAVA, where he leads projects through Art Thinking, and he is currently finishing his PhD in Design at the Faculty of Architecture of Lisbon, where he researches the importance of transformation of the anachronistic objects to foster critical awareness.
He has participated in solo and group exhibitions nationally and internationally. His solo exhibitions include "Gastón Lisak: Mundane Archaeology", curated by Mariella Franzoni; Lisak and Guinovart, Dialogue between exvotes at Fundació Espai Guinovart, "Making the strange familiar, and making the familiar strange", an art residency at Galería 420 of Fundación Mustakis, Santiago de Chile (2022) (2023); "Sacred Plastics" at Imagin in the Fundació La Caixa and at L'Ascensore Gallery, curated by Maria Abramenko, during Palermo Art Weekend (2021).
His selected group exhibitions include participation in "The Wilderness Within" at Prior Art Space, curated by Laura Del Arco; Showroom at Lucas Fox Art Lounge, curated by Mariella Franzoni and The Art Buro; The Collector is Present with Manuel exposito and Antoni Miralda at Galeria Senda (2024) and Törless at Groc Projects, co-curated with Bruno Ollé and Guille Caivano (2022).
Since 2014, he has participated in various exhibitions with the collective Random Happiness, which he continues to lead to this day. Notable projects with the collective include exhibitions and events at Tate Exchange, Forum Terzo Paradiso with Michelangelo Pistoletto, Salone del Mobile, The Aram Gallery, CCCB, and MNAC Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya
